To Pause at the Threshold: Reflections on Living on the Border

by Esther de Waal

Before the official launch of the Threshold Center, we hosted a “pop-up” book group in the summer of 2024. A circle of 15 chairs was set up, awaiting participants. Soon, those chairs were filled, and people scrambled to find more until nearly 40 gathered to reflect on navigating the thresholds of our lives. We hoped participants were hungry for community and meaningful conversation, and the group certainly savored the time together, devouring this small but impactful book of wisdom.

“There is a traditional saying of ancient wisdom: 'A threshold is a sacred thing.”
