Self-discovery is a path worth following, but it’s also a path that can feel daunting and vulnerable. As you navigate life’s thresholds, we foster a safe space to venture into the unknown, feeding curiosity and encouraging the pursuit of creativity and imagination. We celebrate the boldness of those who seek, offering the tools and community to make exploration both possible and meaningful.

Being in Community

The Threshold Center is a place where:

All people are treated with respect, all voices matter, and curiosity is celebrated.

People can heal, grow, and unite without judgment or agenda.

We engage the heart, body, and imagination.

Diversity of life experience, opinion, gender identity, ethnic/racial identity, physical ability, religious affiliation (or none) is honored.

Our actions ripple outward, and we desire to build a more compassionate world.

Story Sharing and Story Keeping are strands that weave us together.

We do our best to listen devoutly to one another by:

  • holding stories in confidence

  • speaking from the heart one person at a time

  • trusting inner wisdom and not trying to fix one another

  • welcoming silence and pauses

  • remembering no one needs judging

  • seeking to understand

Frequently asked questions

  • It is our desire that all persons have access to Threshold Center programs.  Some programs are free. Others have suggested registration fees. All are available at scholarship or reduced registration fee. Simply reach out to Mary Bea Sullivan to receive a confidential scholarship.

  • We are in the process of  building online content and programs for those who prefer remote access, or do not have the capability to attend in-person offerings.

  • Currently, most of our programs are in-person at the Threshold Center which is located at 3794 Crosshaven Drive, Birmingham, AL 35223. We are fortunate to have access to the peaceful and beautiful Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church campus. Our hope is to bring programs on-site into the community.

  • The Threshold Center is an initiative of Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church which is a Christian organization. However, the Threshold Center provides resources, support, and community gathering space for people of all faiths, or no faith at all. Programs are designed for well-being and transformation and some of them will be rooted in various sacred traditions.
